SSAT Scoring & Release

Rigorous question testing and validation, along with the highest degree of statistical scoring procedures, ensure accurate, comparable results, making the SSAT trusted by private schools worldwide.

Please Note:

Admission.org features services across two separate parent accounts: one account for the ISEE, and another for the SSAT, SAO, and Snapshot. We are focused on merging these accounts in the future.

Scoring Methodology

On the Middle and Upper Level SSAT, a point is awarded for each correct answer, a quarter of a point is subtracted for each incorrect answer, and no points are awarded or deducted for omitted questions.

On the Elementary Level SSAT, a point is awarded for each correct answer and there is no penalty for incorrect answers.

SSAT Score Release Schedule

The standard SSAT score release schedule for each testing mode is listed below. Please note: Before scores are released to the family, designated schools, or educational consultants, a parent or guardian must complete the Testing Experience Statement first. This policy applies to all students and testing modes.

Testing Experience Statement

The Testing Experience Statement ensures fairness by enabling families to report any irregularities or issues that interfered with their student's SSAT. Talk with your student about their experience, and then complete the statement as soon as possible.

Complete the Statement

  1. Log into the parent/guardian account.
  2. Click the "SSAT Testing" button.
  3. Click the "Review Statement" button in the "Status" column of your student's test.
  4. Complete and submit the statement.

Report Irregularities

In addition, if there was an irregularity, email a detailed description to info@ssat.org immediately. In these rare circumstances, EMA will work with you and the test center to determine whether the test was fair and valid.

Score Availability

Scores may be released at different times of the day and in some rare circumstances release may take up to three weeks from the test administration. Expedited scoring is unavailable. Learn how to access your score report.

If an incorrect grade level was selected on the Middle or Upper Level SSAT, this service allows for re-scoring to better reflect your child's abilities. Please allow up to two weeks for rescoring. Updated scores will be made available to the family and all score recipients, and all parties will be notified. Tests may only be rescored within the academic testing year in which they were taken (August 1 - July 31).

  • Once a rescore has been completed, the original score report will be unavailable.
  • Middle Level tests (grades 5-7) can only be rescored to grades 5-7.
  • Upper Level tests (grades 8-11) can only be rescored to grades 8-11.
  • Elementary Level tests cannot be rescored.

If you're concerned about the accuracy of computerized scoring due to the possibility of your student mis-bubbling an answer, this service will provide a manual review of your child's score sheet. Please know that manual reviews rarely result in score changes.

The SSAT is an undisclosed test so this service won't provide the actual questions or answers. If hand scoring results in a scoring change, the revised results are added to your account and those of all requested score recipients, and all parties are notified. If no change occurs, you will receive a notification letter.

Please allow up to one month for hand-scoring results. The hand-scoring request deadline of August 31 is thirty days after the conclusion of the preceding testing year from August 1 to July 31. Hand scoring is not available for SSAT at Home or Prometric testing.
