Learn How to Lead Like Baylor
Founded in 1893, Baylor combines a strong academic tradition along with a commitment to innovation and leadership in a coeducational community for grades 6–12.
With just over a thousand students, evenly split between boys and girls, we offer a wide array of activities and extracurricular offerings in addition to an outstanding college preparatory curriculum and selection of advanced studies. Baylor students are encouraged to follow their passions and develop their leadership potential. Rather than singling out only the top students—our goal is to reach out to all students and help them discover and develop their emerging leadership skills. The school’s mission is to "foster in students the desire and ability to make a positive difference in the world."
Today’s student body includes boarding students from 13 countries and 23 states, who attend classes with day students from the Chattanooga area. Taught by faculty who are leaders in their field and devoted to their craft, Baylor students thrive in a college preparatory community that features Global Scholars and international student exchange programs, a Civic Scholars program focused on service leadership; and a STEM curriculum that includes advanced research in engineering, environmental science, and molecular biology. These offerings are rounded out with champion athletic programs, a thriving fine arts program, and an alumni network that impresses, from Pulitzer Prize winners to PGA pros.
College Prep Academics & Support
Standing upon a student-led Honor Code, we offer 29 AP courses and numerous capstone electives in each academic department. Additionally, we have a robust Learning Center consisting of nine faculty members who help students throughout their academic journeys, from introductory classes through AP-level curriculum.
Elite Athletics
Baylor’s stellar athletics program has recently been ranked as high as #3 in the nation by Max Preps and Top-25 nationally by Sports Illustrated. We feature 27 boys’ and girls’ varsity sports teams and have won more state championships than any school in Tennessee. Currently, over 100 Baylor alumni are competing in college!
Robust Fine Arts
Baylor offers robust visual arts, dance & drama, and choir & music programming across 30 Fine Arts courses that culminate in over 40 performances and showcases per year. Baylor’s rich history in the Fine Arts has resulted in a robust alumni network of former Red Raiders thriving in their respective artistic fields.
Outdoor Leadership Program
Our nationally recognized Walkabout program not only allows students to explore outdoor leadership in the renowned natural resources of the Chattanooga-area, but also offers national and global outdoor adventure travel, such as to Maine, Panama and the Himalayas. Through Walkabout, students can regularly trek, kayak, rock climb, and more.
Research, Global, and Civic Scholars
Our scholars programs help motivated students lead in their fields: Research Scholars choose a robust Biomedical, Engineering, or Environmental track. Global Scholars engage with the international community to address global issues. Civics Scholars learn how to build consensus to improve their communities.
Vibrant Community
There’s never a dull moment in Baylor’s vibrant residential life community! With constant activity on-campus and a robust off-campus events calendar that frequently takes advantage of the surrounding natural beauty and the convenience of Chattanooga, students can be as busy as they choose to be.
